Shonkhoodoi-snub nose is the name of the circus school that Tomroo and his wife established in Darkhan, Mongolia's second biggest city. Artists themselves, they created a safe space for underprivileged and street children. The idea is to equip them with skills they need to make a living. Just as important is the acceptance and the solidarity the little artists experience. For many of them it works like an alternative family, and therefore the strict rules are accepted: to participate in the circus school the children must also attend a special primary school to learn how to read and write.
Despite the fact that the circus school is well known even outside Mongolia and has won prizes and awards, funding is still the weak spot: the program is completely dependent on private donors, so the future of this project is not secure.
